42 Peaks - 72 miles and 27 000 feet (8200m) in 24 hours.

On June 13th 1932, Bob Graham completed a round of 42 peaks in the Lake District in under 24 hours. He was aged 42.  Although not repeated until 1960, it is now one of those challenges that every fell runner would like to complete.

Well over 1500 people have officially completed the circuit and are now members of the Bob Graham 24 Hour Club.

Billy bland currently holds the record for the fastest  round. In 1982 he managed all 42 peaks in 13hrs. 53mins.

There have been many attempts to increase the number of peaks visited in the 24 hours. Currently, Mark Hartell holds the record at 77 peaks in 23Hrs 47mins (completed in 1997)

There are basically 5 sections to the round - at the end of each you need to cross a road before embarking on the next hilly section. Your support team is hopefully waiting at the road with vital supplies to keep you fueled for your attempt.

Since the challenge may last for 24 hours, you are going to have to do some of it in the dark. Most choose to do the first and last sections at night as they are perhaps the easiest to navigate.
